Join building trades affiliates, union leaders, contractors, and construction workers for a day of advocacy and education in Springfield. Attendees will engage in robust discussions with elected officials on ways to further recruit, retain, and empower women entering careers in construction.

Please arrive at the Illinois State Library by 10:30 AM to ensure time for check in and to get settled. We will begin promptly at 11:00 AM with a welcome, lobbying training, and lunch before breaking into groups and heading across the street to the State Capitol to meet with legislators.

You are invited to the Illinois AFL-CIO “LABOR SALUTES” reception on Wednesday, March 5 from 5-7pm at the Illinois State Treasurer’s office in Springfield.  Local unions, members and organizations are encouraged to attend as we honor elected officials who advocate for worker rights.  The reception will include the presentation of three awards including the Zeke Giorgi Award to State Representative Eva Dina Delgado; Margaret Blackshere Woman in Leadership Award to Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski; and the Reuben Soderstrom Award to Senator Bill Cunningham. 

 

Meeting Point and Arrival

Please plan to arrive at the Illinois State Library by 10:30 AM. We will begin promptly at 11:00 AM with a welcome, lobbying training, and lunch before breaking into groups and heading across the street to the State Capitol for the lobbying portion of the day.

 

Bus Drop-off 

Buses should drop off participants on the east side of Second St in front of the Illinois State Library. 

 

Parking  

Individuals driving themselves can park at any of the public garages around Springfield or where directed by their local union. After dropping off attendees, buses can park at the Visitors Center parking lot west of the Capitol. 

 

Entrance 

Your day will start in the State Library Atrium for the lobby day introduction, before moving to the Capitol and Stratton buildings to speak with legislators. 


Security

Please note that you will be required to pass through security, including an X-Ray scanner and metal detectors, when entering the Capitol Complex. 


Attire

Please come as you are! Pink and white t-shirts will be distributed to be worn throughout the event. Whether work boots or blazers, please dress to your own comfort level.
